5 Short Courses in African Studies -
Short Courses in African Studies

An exciting multidisciplinary study and discourse that interrogates the present realities of Africa through reflections on past cultural experiences and achievements, providing direction for sustainable development in Africa - African development through its culture.

The short courses are designed to provide insight into some African cultural elements that are necessary for successful and sustainable development outcomes. Designing of the short courses grew out of worry about the persistence of poverty in Africa despite decades of strategized unilateral and multilateral development interventions. Hopes and expectations as envisaged have remained illusory. Instead, the experience is that in some cases pitiable situations have even worsened, further dampening hopes. Fortunately, the importance of recognition of local culture for socio-economic development is increasingly and widely appreciated, rooted in the understanding that some failed efforts and unsuccessful development interventions is as a result of sidelining of local culture and indigenous knowledge system. It is in this perspective that the following courses were designed:>
