JUCO LAUNCHES NEW DATA SCIENCE & MODELLING RESEARCH GROUP

Date posted: 2026-05-26

Jordan University College is launching a new research group - and we are looking for participants.

The JUCo Data Science & Modelling Research Group (JUCo DSRG) is a formally established interdisciplinary research initiative at Jordan University College. Starting Semester 1 of the 2026/2027 academic year, the group will bring together early-career researchers to develop practical skills in data analysis and mathematical modelling - and apply those skills to real problems that matter for JUCo and for public health in Tanzania.

The 2026/2027 cohort is open to:

  • Undergraduate students from Mathematics or Computer Science with at least two academic years remaining.
  • Postgraduate students (Masters or PhD) wishing to join as researchers - contributing analytically, mentoring undergraduate members, and advancing their own expertise.
  • Academic staff interested in contributing as co-facilitators are also welcome to reach us out.

What participants gain: hands-on training in R/Python, real data analysis and modelling skills, an individual research topic, presentation skills, peer mentorship, a Certificate of Research Participation, and a stronger foundation for postgraduate study and data-driven careers.

No prior coding experience is required. Cohort size is limited to 15 participants. Weekly sessions run for 2 hours throughout Semester 1.

To apply, complete the online application form by 25 June 2026 through Google Form link.

For questions or to express interest in co-facilitation, contact the Group Coordinator: Dr. Anna Fome · anna.fome@juco.ac.tz.
